GoBe – Moray West
3DW recently completed a 3D interactive model of the Moray West offshore wind farm project. Working with GoBe , 3DW created the 3D model to be used at public consultations for the two-part windfarm development.
Vattenfall STEM Programme
This month 3DW very proudly took part in a series of events working with Vattenfall on their school outreach programme ; tying into their proposal for an offshore wind farm project in Norfolk . The events not only provided students with a crossover of skill learning including maths, technology, presentation and team building skills; but also encouraged them to come to the Norfolk Vanguard public consultation events and give their feedback on the project. 3DW and Vattenfall agree that the opinions of the next generation are the most important as they are the ones that will be most affected. 3DW will also be supporting Vattenfall at their public consulations with their 3D interactive model of Norfolk in November.
SSEN Inveraray - Crossaig Consultation
3DW supported SSEN at their public consultation events for the Inveraray – Crossaig connection reinforcement . The team took their 3D interactive model of the project to public consultations in areas surrounding the development. The 3D visualisation was received well by the public, engaging and enabling them to have clearer feedback.
Xodus – Moray East
Working with Xodus , 3DW recently developed a 3D interactive visualisation of the Moray East offshore wind farm development. This is one half of a two-part project to be built off the east coast of Scotland.
DONG (Orsted) - Hornsea Project 3
3DW recently finished their 3D model of Hornsea Project 3 for energy developer DONG (now named Orsted) . The interactive 3D visualisation of the proposed scheme portrays its visual impact off the coast of Norfolk and was used by Orsted at public consultations for the project.
Infinity Festival - Cumbria
3DW supported Nugen the incredible STEM focused event Infinity Science and Technology Festival at Westlakes Academy this month. With Brian Cox as the headline speaker, it was a day of high-energy interactive activities from different STEM focused organisations. Pupils came from a variety of schools in Cumbria. 3DW delivered their interactive virtual reality rollercoaster of the Moorside site, to engage and inspire the students.
Horizon – Anglesey National Eisteddfod
3DW enjoyed delivering their 3D virtual reality rollercoaster experience as part of the Anglesey National Eisteddfod https://eisteddfod.wales/). Working in collaboration with Horizon, the interactive game creates an entertaining experience for users, around the proposed Wylfa Newydd nuclear power plant site.
Horizon - Anglesey Show
3DW was proud to support Horizon at the Anglesey Show for the second year running. The team were there engaging the public with their Virtual Reality Rollercoaster around the proposed Wylfa Newydd site. It was a positive day with good feedback, 3DW look forward to participating in more community events in the future.
SSEN - Fort Augustus
Scottish Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is planning to reinforce their existing Fort Augustus Substation through the installation of new buildings and equipment. This is to allow more electrical generators to join the transmission network. To support SSEN in their planning and consultation phase of this project; 3DW have developed a 3D interactive visualisation of the development. This includes a video fly-through which is accessible on the SSEN Fort Augustus web page. The 3D model will be used at public consultations to communicate with the public, the visual impact and details of the development.

3DW Work on Second Year of NuGen's Bright Sparks
3DW were delighted to collaborate with NuGen again for the second year of their award winning
school engagement program. Their involvement included developing a virtual reality rollercoaster game which uses the Oculus Rift and an Xbox controller. 3DW also ran their Design and Build a Virtual Wind Farm and
activities. Positive feedback was received from each of the schools, expressing the benefit of companies coming in to share their experience and knowledge.

Wylfa Newydd Stage Three Public Consultations
3DW are proud to have supported Horizon at their stage three public consultation events for Wylfa Newydd, over May and June. The public responded positively to how clearly changes to the proposal plans were portrayed in the 3D visualisation. 3DW are looking forward to further collaboration with Horizon in the future.
3DW Design New Logo for BECBC
3DW are very proud to announce they are the designers behind the new logo for Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster (BECBC). You can see the new logo and rebranding on their
website. 3DW have been members of the BECBC for three years now and feel honoured that their design was chosen.
Kieran from 3DW the lead designer for the logo said:
“We developed it around the idea that BECBC is the hub for a collective of like-minded organisations that are looking to collaborate. Their various events give opportunities for networking and exchanging ideas. We looked at BECBC as being at the centre and the other elements represent the organisations moving in and then extending out infinitely. This symbolises the force we can have as a collective to create positive changes in Cumbria and further. The elements of the logo are clustered together in a 360 arrangement as all organisations contribute to the diversity of BECBC. All of the different sectors are working together to create a strong core”
Hazel Duhy from BECBC stated:
“The Main thing from me was that Cluster was looking for a clear change from the past, a suggestion of the collaboration and networking priorities and strong colours. And the 3DW proposal met all three.”

Inside Government - Promoting Women in STEM
3DW attended the event Promoting Women in STEM organised by Inside Government. It was a very motivating event with some incredibly inspiring speakers from organisations such as The WISE Campaign; The Royal Society Diversity Committee and Sandbach High School. They covered issues around diversity; inclusion; unconscious bias and how people can help solve them. They spoke about the positive effects of having a diverse workforce and how innovation can be used to drive cultural change. The most powerful message is the need to influence the next generation; before they’ve made decisions about their future career. Companies have a responsibility to share experiences as role models and create positive connections and inspire the next generation to want to make a difference.
Loreto Grammar School - Careers Networking Event
3DW took their Oculus Rift to local Loreto Grammar School . 3DW were situated in the ‘STEM’ zone. The event provided students with the opportunity to ask professionals about their jobs. As part of this interactive discussion, 3DW had their virtual reality roller coaster experience for the pupils to try.. 3DW have been using the Oculus Rift and their other technologies to engage and inspire young people to take an interest in STEM industries.
Manchester Islamic High School for Girls - Career Event
In support of International Women’s Day, 3DW took part in an interactive careers fair at
Islamic High School for Girls. Students were given an interactive experience of what it’s like to work for a technology focused company. It involved learning about the career path of a female employee and making the connection between school and work. This is one of over 30 STEM school engagement events Andy has attended. 3DW are very passionate about engaging with school’s to inspire students.

“The STEM careers event at Manchester Islamic High School for Girls was a success. Every student was intrigued about finding out information on an area of work they had never come across before. During the 5 minutes with each group I was able give the students as much insight as possible and answer many questions.”
St James Catholic School - Mock Interviews
3DW volunteered at local St James Catholic School in Stockport. It was a full day of mock interviews to help develop the pupils’ employability skills. St James Catholic School stated that " having a mock interview with an employee from industry is valuable and helps the pupils feel more prepared for the working world ."
NuGen Bright Sparks Launch - Year Two
This month 3DW supported NuGen at the launch for the second year of their Bright Sparks school engagement initiative. 3DW were there with their virtual reality roller coaster experience. The pupils really enjoyed using the Oculus Rift as most of them have seen the technology but never had a chance to use it.
Women in Nuclear
3DW attended the Women in Nuclear UK event to show their support towards women working in the nuclear industry. They found it a really inspiring, engaging event with some excellent workshops. It has also contributed to ideas for their Women in STEM and Women in Technology initiatives. Overall it was an incredible event, they look forward to attending it again next year.
Bett Show 2017
3DW attended the
Bett Show at Excel in London. As one of the largest education events in the UK, 3DW found the event inspiring. They look forward to exhibiting their work in education there in the future.

Phoenix Awareness Week
At the beginning of this month, 3DW volunteered as part of Phoenix Awareness Week. Young people from The Phoenix Youth Project in Cumbria participated in a week of activities with different companies; to learn about employability skills and career opportunities. At the end of the week they created a newspaper depicting what they had learned throughout the week. 3DW thoroughly enjoyed the session and engaging with young people with an aim to inspire them.
3DW Railway Demo
3DW have recently created a 3D visualisation of a railway line. The video shows a fly-through of the trains path, which includes a high level of detail of the surrounding areas. The 3D model is fully interactive, allowing the user to navigate to any point of view, in the virtual environment. This makes the technology useful for any planning, stakeholder engagement meetings and public consultation events.
BECBC Business Awards Dinner 2016
Earlier this year, 3DW were shortlisted for the BECBC Business Innovation Award. They attended the BECBC Business Awards Dinner but unfortunately didn't win. However, they feel honoured to have been nominated for their achievements and look forward to entering again next year. They wish a big congrtulations to the winning company Rovtech Solutions , whom have some incredible technologies.
EDF Sizewell C Stage Two Public Consultations
3DW have recently completed their updates on their 3D interactive model, for EDF's nuclear new build project
The 3D visualisation contains modelling of the main site and associated developments. This includes some of the road improvements and the Sizewell C campus. It will be used at the stage two set of public consultations with the support of 3DW, to help the public gain a better understanding of the scheme.
Horizon - Wylfa Newydd Stage Two Consultation
Supporting Horizon on its nuclear new build project, Wylfa Newydd, 3DW attended all of the public consultations held by Horizon with an interactive 3D model of the scheme. The 3D visualisation includes the main site and the associated development sites such as workers accommodation. Feedback from the public about the model was positive, particularly as visitors can view the project from various vantage points including their own home.
Vattenfall Norfolk Vanguard
3DW recently completed an interactive 3D model of the proposed offshore wind farm Norfolk Vanguard. The will be used by Vattenfall at their public consultations for the scheme, which will run from the 18th- 29th of October. For more information about the proposed development, click here.
SSE North Argyll
Working with SSE on their proposal for construction of a new substation in North Argyll, 3DW have created an interactive 3D model demonstrating the proposal options. Horizon Energy Challenge - Anglesey Show
3DW created a 3D virtual reality roller coaster experience and took it to the Anglesey Show, to engage the younger audience with Horizon’s nuclear new build project Wylfa Newydd. Using an Oculus Rift headset and Xbox controller, the user is taken on a roller coaster ride around the 3D model of the main site of Wylfa Newydd. The aim of the game is to collect as many lightbulbs as possible; more lightbulbs mean more power is created! To see a video of the roller coaster experience. Please click here.
Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership
In collaboration with AECOM and the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), 3DW produced a video to help promote the unique and far reaching benefits of living and working in the region. West Somerset Tidal Lagoon
Working with LongBay SeaPower, 3DW have created an interactive 3D model of their proposed scheme West Somerset Lagoon. The 3D visualisation will be used to promote the positive benefits of using tidal power for energy generation in the UK. For more information about the project please click here.
NuGen Bright Sparks - Energy Quest
Collaborating with NuGen on their education initiative Bright Sparks, 3DW created an activity and took it into schools in Cumbria. Pupils were asked in small teams to explore an interactive 3D model of Cumbria. Around the model were different types of energy generation sites. These included Kirkby Moor onshore wind farm, Walney Offshore wind farm, Iggesund Paper Mill and the proposed site for Moorside nuclear power station. At each of the sites were bits of information about each type of energy, pupils had to collect as many of these as possible. They were then quizzed at the end to see how much they had taken in. Prizes were given to the team with the most correct answers! The students really engaged in the activity and said it was a fun way to learn about energy. Take a look at the activity here.

St Benedict's School Bright Sparks
The third out of three schools participating in NuGen’s Bright Sparks programme; 3DW enjoyed delivering their ’Design and Build a Virtual Wind Farm’ activity, to St Benedict’s School in Whitehaven. The pupils really engaged with the tasks they were given. They particularly had a good time using 3DW’s virtual reality headset the Oculus Rift. 3DW looks forward to working with all three schools again later in the year. Millom School Bright Sparks
3DW delivered their ’Design and Build a Virtual Windfarm’ at Millom School as part of NuGen’s Bright Sparks initiative. The pupils really enjoyed the day, engaging particularly well in the presentations.
George Burch, an Educational Advisor at Millom said "3DW were a big hit with the students. The 3DW project has great learning potential and will make a truly awesome educational tool."
Whitehaven Academy Bright Sparks
Working with NuGen on their Bright Sparks initiative; 3DW delivered their ’Design and Build a Virtual Windfarm’ activity at Whitehaven Academy in Cumbria. The day challenges students to use their maths, science and technology skills to plan a 3D windfarm using a 2D map and 3D graphics technology. In groups, competing to create the best design, students have to market their ideas concluding with a presentation to the rest of the class. The session provides insight into possible careers in the technology industry. Both the pupils and teachers gave positive feedback about the day.
Mock Interviews at St James Catholic School
3DW were delighted to volunteer at a local School St James Catholic this month. Working with
; they participated in an activity that simulated mock interviews for year 10 students, to prepare them for future work experience applications.

"The students gain so much more from the activities by having your input as it really adds to the ’real life’ experience that we are trying to achieve and we have had some fantastic feedback from both the school and from individual students."
Flixton Girls School STEM Day
After a successful collaboration last February, 3DW returned to Flixton Girls School this month to deliver their STEM session ’Working in Technology: Build a Virtual Wind Farm’. The session was enjoyable and engaging for all parties with positive feedback from the pupils. For more information about the day please take a look at this video. NuGen Bright Sparks Launch Event
3DW were pleased to be a part of the Bright Sparks launch event, an educational initiative being delivered over the next few months by NuGen. Around 200 pupils from secondary schools around Cumbria attended the event to learn, via interactive resources, about electricity generation. 3DW had their own engaging stand at the event allowing pupils to try out their Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. Women In STEM Presentation - Flixton Girls School
Josie from the 3DW team gave a presentation to the Year 10 students of Flixton Girls School as part of a Women In STEM assembly. The presentation involved a demonstration of what exciting career opportunities there are for women in the technology industry. Josie also gave a demonstration of some new technology 3DW have been working with; the Thalmic Lab Myo Armband. The talk was received well by the students leaving some inspired to work in technology industry.
Island Green Power - Low Farm Solar Park
3DW recently created an interactive 3D model of the proposed Low Farm Solar Park for global energy company Island Green Power. The 3D visualisation was developed to be used by IGP at a community engagement event for the residents living locally to the scheme. 3DW also worked alongside IGP at the public consultation to demonstrate to the public how the development would impact their local area visually. Both the project and the 3D model received an encouraging response with the local community interested to see how the project will develop.
NDA Supply Chain Event
3DW recently attended the Nuclear Decomissioning Estate Supply Chain event in Manchester. The event was a useful insight to the problems faced in the nuclear decommissioning sector. 3DW look forward to attending this event again next year. For more information about this year’s event, click here.

Hinkley Point C development
We are proud to have been involved with the Hinkley Point C project working with EDF Energy to create our interactive solutions. Over the last week news broke about a deal between the Chinese state owned CGN and EDF for the finance to build the new station. This news helps plug a hole in the UK’s energy needs and 3DW look forward to future work on the development. You can read more about the work we have done so far here.
Low Level Waste Repository - 3D Model
3DW recently completed a fully interactive model of the existing LLWR (Low Level Waste Repository) site and proposals for vaults 8, 9, 9a, 10, 11 and the final cap running to 2050. The model allows you to toggle between the different construction phases and associated landscaping. STEM Day at Knutsford
3DW delivered their STEM day ’Working in Technology: Build A Virtual Wind Farm’ to Knutsford Studio Academy this month. It was another successful session with positive feedback from the students and the school. The day was also filmed by Marick Partners which you can see here: STEM Day video.
Nocton Fen Public Consultations
Vattenfall are using 3DW’s 3D interactive model of their proposed wind farm Nocton Fen at their public consultations running through till the 20th of July. The 3D model will be used to help the public understand any visual impact. The energy project is of National Significance with the potential to generate 50mw of power.

STEM Day at Ashton On Mersey School
This month 3DW delivered their STEM day at local school Ashton on Mersey. The day was this time based around working in tech and was aimed at year 9 students. It was a positive experience for all with the students gaining a better understanding of working in the technology and energy industries. It also gave them an opportunity to use the virtual reality headset ’Oculus Rift’ which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Island Green Power - Low Farm Solar Park
3DW recently created another interactive 3D model for Island Green Power of proposed Low Farm Solar Park located in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire. The 3D visualisation was developed to be used by IGP at a community engagement event for the residents living locally to the scheme. 3DW also worked alongside IGP at the public consultation to demonstrate to the public how the development would impact their local area visually. Peel - Beaw Field Wind Farm
3DW were asked by Peel to develop a 3D interactive model of their Beaw Field wind farm development. The 3D model is fully interactive and includes the entire terrain of the Isle of Yell measuring at approximately 29 by 11 sq km. More information on the development can be found here at
www.beawfieldwindfarm.co.uk. The 3D visualisation was used by Peel at public consultations in the surrounding areas of the proposed site.
Peel Energy commented:
"First off, thanks for producing such a great piece of kit for the exhibitions, the public really appreciated it and the feedback we got was much more useful as a result. The model worked really well and we had to prise people away from the screen to show them some of the other stuff we’d brought to the exhibition!"
Island Green Power - Shuttleworth Solar Park
3DW recently completed an interactive 3D model of the Shuttlworth solar park for Island Green Power (IGP), to demonstrate the visual impact of the proposed scheme. The event received a large turnout with a lots of positive feedback towards the both the proposed solar park and the 3D model. It has been a pleasure to work with IGP on another one of their projects and we look forward to working with them more in the future.
National Grid Honorable Mention for HPCC Interactive Consultation
National Grid’s Hinkley Point C Connection interactive consultation received an honorable mention in the "communication and participtaion" category at the 4th European Grid Conference - Good Practice of the Year Award. 3DW are delighted and proud to have been a part of the project and consultation.
The article reads:
"A second very commendable approach in the "communication and participation" category inspired the jury to also give an honourable mention to National Grid’s "HCCP Interactive Consultation", a practice that uses virtual 3D models to show how planned grid lines will look in an elected corridor. The software gives an impression of the line’s appearance in simulated versions of existing landscapes and allows affected communities to provide input for the planning based on visual impressions."

Vattenfall - Nocton Fen
3DW recently developed an interactive 3D model for Vattenfall of their wind energy project at Nocton Fen, Lincolnshire. 3DW also created an informative video about the wind farm project including a drive-through of the 3D visualisation to give the public an idea of how the project could look from the villages around the site.
EDF Renewables - Fallago Rig Exhibitions
3DW collaborated with EDF Renewables at their public consultations demonstrating their 3D model of Fallago Rig wind farm with the added extension of 17 turbines. They exhibited for 2 days and received a positive response from the public about the development and the 3D model.
EDF Renewables - Cold Northcott Wind Farm
In a collaboration with EDF Renewables, 3DW recently delivered a 3D model for their wind farm development Cold Northcott. EDF is proposing to replace the turbines at it’s Cold Northcott wind farm. The wind farm comprises 22 turbines with a total capacity of 6.6 megawatts of power. More information on the development can be found here.
Flixton Girls School STEM Day
After being involved in education for a year, 3dw ran their first full STEM day at Flixton Girls School in Manchester. The day was based around the theme of ’Women in Tech’ in hope to promote working in the technology industry to students. Using skills covered in both maths and technology, the students used 3DW’s interactive 3D application and virtual reality headset to plot and plan their own wind farms.
"I really enjoyed figuring out where to plot the turbines because it was interesting to find out why they couldn’t be put just anywhere."
WPD - Brechfa Forest Connection Exhibitions
Working with WPD, 3DW attended public consultations for Brechfa Forest Connection to demonstrate the 3D visualisation to the public. They were faily well attended given the timing, xmas and new year. The public response was for the most part a lot more positive given that the connection is significantly shorter meaning that less areas suffer a visual impact. Even those with negative views towards the project agreed that the 3D model was a really useful thing to see. More information about the Brechfa Connection can be found here.
BBC Women in Technology Event
Josie from the team attend the Women in Technology - Networking and Development Day. The day was an opportunity for women in the technology industry to network with others and learn networking and business skills. The day was a mixture of inspirational talks and workshops including a visit to the BBC’s Blue Room, their media tech demo lab. Josie cam away from it feeling positive and was given some good advice about encouraging the next generation of women to get interested in technology. The BBC is looking to do a similar event again later this year.
Pi Renewables - Eascairt Wind Farm
3DW recently delivered an interactive 3D model for Pi Renewables’ wind farm project Eascarit. This is the first project 3DW have developed with Pi Renewables and look forward to working with them again in the future.
EDF - Bullington Cross Exhibitions
Working with EDF, 3DW demonstrated their 3D interactive model of Bullington Cross wind farm at the public consultations this month. The exhibitions were well attended by local residents and people interested in learning more about the project. The responses were mixed about the development but an overall positive response towards the 3D model. It has been a pleasure for 3DW to work with EDF on another project and look forward to collaborating again in the future.

2020 Renewables - Whitelaw Brae Wind Farm

Tees Valley Skills Event
3DW attended theTees Valley Skills event, an interactive event for school and college students to learn about possible future career options. There to support Humberside Engineering Training Association (HETA) and Forewind, we demonstrated our new technology the Oculus Rift. The reception we received was incredibly positive, a lot of the children had heard of the technology, seen it on the internet but not had an opportunity to try it, they were very excited! We are hoping to take this technology further into education. Over all a great day.

Wylfa Newydd Power Station
3DW have recently created a 3D interactive model for the Wylfa Newydd Nuclear Power Station. For a full case study of the project with images click here.
3DW have developed a new tool named Real Plan. This innovative design tool allows wind farm developers to change turbine layouts and evaluate the visual impact from multiple viewpoints simultaneously, all in real-time. To see a video demonstration of the tool click here.
Wylfa Newydd Public Consultations
3DW are currently working with Horizon Nuclear Power in the first stage of their project Wylfa Newydd power station. We have created an interactive model of the existing and proposed power stations along with the surrounding area, to be used as a visual tool at the on going consultations.
Trowse Solar Farm
3dw have recently completed an interactive 3D model for Island Green Power, for one of their large solar farm proposed south of the Trowse Bypass in Norfolk. The 3D model along with 4 video drvie-throughs were also used at the community engagement event last week. 3dw are delighted to receive positive feedback from the developer following the event. Dave Elvin commented:

Celtic Array Wind Farm
Working with Centrica, 3DW have just completed a 3D model of the proposed off-shore array, sub station and cable routes. Also included were alternatives for each cable route and array layouts/turbine types and numbers.

Having seen the value that interactive 3D visualisation can bring to planning and consultation processes, EverPower has become the first US Wind Energy developer to use this innovative technology from UK firm, 3dw. Andy went with our current placement student to Altrincham Grammar School for Boys and volunteered at their STEM careers fair talking informally about 3DW as a career path. The fair was aimed at year 10 students with an idea to widen their ideas about potential careers. The students found our 3D models interesting, we hope in the future to be able to use them as an educational tool.

It’s that time of year again!
The RenewableUK 2013 Conference & Exhibition is coming soon. 3DW have been attending this important event over the past 10 years demonstrating continued and consistent innovation of our exceptional interactive 3D solutions. Our projects are successfully supporting design, planning and consultation activities associated with major onshore and offshore wind farm developments.
We are looking forward to seeing you between the 5th and 7th November at the NEC, Birmingham on stand number 206.
National Grid - Hinkley Point C Connection
3DW have been contracted by National Grid to work on the Hinkley point C connection project. 3DW have created an interactive 3D model which covers approx. 2100sq.km consisting of different route alignments, proposed infrastructures and proposed structures including the new T Pylons.
In addition 3DW also produced 18 comprehensive video flythroughs which can be viewed on the Hinkley Point C Connection website.
The model has been used at 3 information hubs over a 3 month period as well as at exhibitions and public Q&A sessions. 3DW were pleased to support the events and to see the model being very well received by National Grid, local authorities and the general public.
Eneco Wind UK - Navitus Bay Public Consultations
Due to a high amount of coverage in the media and a positive response from the public 3DW were again asked to attend the Navitus Bay Public Consultations.
This time it was round four and the final stage of Navitus Bay’s exhibitions. We finely tuned the model to match the feedback and developments from the previous round of events and again presented it to an eagerly awaiting public.
With similar attendance to last time round (2000) the model was extremely popular. Irrespective of peoples individual thoughts on the Navitus Bay development it was agreed that the model clearly displayed the proposal and its evolution in a non-technical, impartial and accurate enough way for people to make an informed and constructive decision about their thoughts on the project.

Vattenfall - South Kyle Wind Farm
3DW are delighted to receive such positive feedback from Vattenfall, regarding the interactive 3D model we produced for the proposed South Kyle Wind Farm project.
Ben O’Connor from Vattenfall said:
"The exhibitions went very well; the 3D model went down a treat with the locals! There were a few people who were sceptical of the accuracy of visualisations presented by wind farm companies, but after going along one of the pre-set routes and recognising certain buildings they appeared to be convinced we don’t distort the model in our favour, which was nice to see...we really wanted to get the message across that for a 50 turbine development the visibility from key areas is very low, and the model definitely helped convince the visitors of this. As the project progresses the 3D model will be used as a tool to visualise different ideas for regenerating the infrastructure and layout of the area."
3D Model for Garston Master Planning, Liverpool
3DW unveiled an updated 3D model of the Garston area of Liverpool to support a new Master Planning initiative for the area. Working in conjunction with the City Council and environmental design consultants Urbed, the 3D model was used at a neighbourhood planning meeting where business owners, residents and other groups came together to discuss the issues in the area and ideas for making significant improvements.
As the project progresses the 3D model will be used as a tool to visualise different ideas for regenerating the infrastructure and layout of the area.
International Convention Marine Renewable Energy Exhibition
3DW are joining the UKTI-RENEWABLEUK Thetis Trade Show and will be exhibiting at the Thetis-EMR exhibition in Brest, France, between the 10-11th April 2013. This is an international convention marine renewable energy event, 3DW will be showcasing our recent involvement in the offshore wind projects, please come and visit us at stand no. A1, we look forward to seeing you there!
Eneco - Navitus Bay Offshore Wind Exhibition
3DW have recently completed an interactive 3D model of the Navitus Bay offshore wind project for Eneco. The model was used extensively throughout the third phase of public consultations which took place at eight locations along the coast. Around 2,000 visitors attended the exhibitions and they all had the opportunity to use the 3D model to assess realistic views of the wind farm from any requested viewpoints which would otherwise have been impossible to provide.
Feedback on the 3D model was overwhelmingly positive. Irrespective of whether or not individuals agreed with the Navitus Bay development, the model clearly presented the proposals in a non-technical and unambiguous way which facilitated open, informed and constructive discussions about the scheme.
Peel Energy - Garleffan Wind farm
3DW have successfully delivered the interactive 3D model of the proposed Garleffan wind farm. The model covers almost 5,000 sq km and includes the proposed wind farm site and 17 other sites.
Annette Lardeur, Development Manager at Peel Energy commented:
"It (the model) was extremely useful at the exhibitions and we got a lot of value from it."
Burcote Wind - Longburn
3DW have produced a very large scale 3D model of the area measuring 617km sq to be used at upcoming public consultation events and presentations to local authorities. The 3D model allows users to fly anywhere within the 3d environment, add, remove and move turbines at will and change the wind direction.
Burcote Wind is currently consulting with the community on the prospect of building a wind farm which could potentially power 60,00 homes 4 miles east of Carsphairn in Dumfries and Galloway.
Burcote Wind - Sandy Knowe Wind Farm
3DW are delighted to have completed another onshore wind farm interactive 3D model and video flythroughs for Burcote Wind. The proposed Sandy Knowe wind farm consists of 27 turbines and will power more than 55% of all homes in Dumfries and Galloway.
3DW participated at public exhibitions with the development team. The 3d model and video flythroughs were very well received by the public and two local MSPs remarked the effectiveness of the 3D model.
E.ON Climate & Renewables - Rampion Offshore Wind Farm
3DW were delighted to have been commissioned by E.on to produce two 3D flythroughs of the Rampion offshore scheme. The flythroughs were completed within a very tight timescale and have being used during the 12 public exhibition events from the 13th Feb to the 6th May 2012. To view the videos, please click here.
Burcote Wind - Creggan Wind Farm
3DW are pleased to have worked with Burcote Wind on the Creggan Wind Farm. 3DW have produced an interactive 3D model of the wind farm site, the model presents two different turbine types and allows a user to assess views towards the wind farm site from anywhere they wish to within the 3D environment. In addition, a user can also insert, move and delete turbines; this has helped the planning team in determine potential turbine layouts.
3DW have also produced a video flythrough of the scheme, both the 3D model and the video were very well received at the public exhibitions.
RWE npower - Gwynt y Mor Promotional Video
Based on the interactive 3D Model of the Gwynt y Mor offshore scheme 3DW created a few years ago, 3DW has recently produced a promotional video of the scheme. The video is about 6.30 minutes long and is mainly used at public exhibitions to offer the public a better understanding of the offshore project.

EDF Energy - Hinkley Point C
3DW have recently updated the existing Hinkley Point C Interactive 3D Model, according to the proposals contained in the Development Consent Order (DCO) application to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC). 3DW will be attending another round of public consultations with EDF energy, to support their events in January 2012.
Peel Energy - Scout Moor Onshore Wind Farm Extension
3DW were commissioned by Peel Energy to produce an interactive 3D application to assist the planning process of the proposed Scout Moor wind farm extension. The 3D application covers a radius of 15km from the wind farm site with 26 existing wind turbines and approximately 44 proposed turbines in 4 different layouts. The 3D application allows the planning team to insert/move/delete turbines and chooses different turbine types. In public exhibitions, the application will also enable the team to record and display locations which stakeholders, including the public, consider to be of key importance. This will help the development team to develop the site accordingly.
3DW has successfully exhibited at the RenewableUK conference in Manchester Central. At the exhibition, 3DW have showcased some of our most recent work which is successfully supporting onshore and offshore wind schemes as well as several overhead power line developments.
EDF Energy Renewables
3DW are proud to be supporting EDF Energy Renewables on all of their onshore wind farm proposals.
Over the past few months, 3DW has successfully delivered interactive 3D models of sites at Beck Burn, Maumhill, Sheraton and Stoneton and is about to deliver the Pearie Law wind farm in the next two weeks. All the 3D models were accompanied with video flythroughs which were very well received at all of the public consultation events.
RWE Npower Renewables - Atlantic Array Offshore
The Atlantic array offshore wind farm is located in the outer Bristol Channel with a generating capacity of up to 1500MW. 3DW has developed an interactive 3D model of the proposed scheme along with 6 video flythroughs. The model covers an area of approximately 9,000km2 and it was extensively used over 14 days of public consultation events. Individuals can explore the 3 turbine layout options, from any location, as well as checking cable routes and measuring distance from a particular location to the turbines.
3DW are pleased to have contributed on yet another RWE Npower Renewables' offshore project.
Eneco - Tullo Onshore Wind Farm Extension
3DW are pleased to work with Eneco on the proposed extension to their Tullo onshore wind farm scheme near Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire. 3DW produced an interactive 3D model of an area of 160km2.The model was successfully used at the public exhibition where the stakeholders compared the proposed extension with the existing wind farm site from any location they wished to.
Daniel Badcock, Development Manager from Eneco remarked:
"Dealing with 3DW has been a pleasure. Out of the 60+ members of the public who viewed the model, we did not receive a single complaint nor was there any confusion. I was very pleased and impressed with this 100% positive response."
DONG Energy - Burbo Bank Offshore Windfarm Extension
3DW were pleased to support DONG Energy during the consultation process on the extension of the Burbo Bank offshore wind farm. 3DW produced an interactive 3D model of the scheme under very tight timeline. Geographically, the 3D model covers approximately 750sq.km, it consists of 65 proposed turbines, the existing burbo bank wind farm along with those associated with the North Holye and Gwynt y Mor wind farms. In addition, the model also illustrates the cable routes from the offshore substations to the onshore landing point on to the onshore substation.
The model was used over four days of consultation events and was very well received by the developer and the public.
King's Lynn B Connection Overhead Powerline Tool
3DW were proud to be appointed by National Grid to develop an interactive 3D overhead power line tool to support the consultation of a new overhead power line from King's Lynn B power station to the existing National Grid network.
This tool not only visualises the proposed overhead lines, it also allows users to move and edit the positions and heights of the overhead line pylons. The tool has been successfully used in the community workshops, and it will be updated and continuously used for further workshops and public consultation events.
Stornoway Wind Farm Interactive 3D Model
3DW were commissioned by Lewis Wind Power (a joint venture between EDF Energy and AMEC) to produce an interactive 3D model of Stornoway Wind Farm. The model was successfully used at public exhibitions and in meetings with consultees.
Project Manger Darren Cuming said:
"The use of the technology at the exhibitions was superb and was a real feature that provided the people who attended with a positive feeling about the wind farm. I am sure that the use of the technology has enhanced our chances of gaining permission for the wind farm."

RWE Npower Renewables - Orchard Way Wind Farm
Having worked with RWE Npower Renewables on the offshore wind farm Gwynt y Mor, 3DW were pleased to produce a 3D visualisation of their on-shore proposals for Orchard Way Wind Farm.
The model was primarily used to illustrate the views of the wind turbines as seen from neighbouring properties. Photographic imagery was added to key locations to help viewers orientate themselves within the 3D environment. Access track to turbines and planning constraints were also visualised in the model to increase viewers understanding of the scheme.
Partnership strenghens services to UK Energy sector
3DW are excited to announce a partnership with Taylor Keogh, a leading Public Relations Consultancy.
Established in 2003, Taylor Keogh provides clients with a strategic and independent perspective to their communication requirements. The consultancy has a strong focus in Energy, Utilities and Infrastructure Development.

Nuclear Power Station Infrastructure Planning
3DW have produced a large scale computer model of EDF Energy's proposed new nuclear power station and associated development at Hinkley Point.
This system has played an important part in delivering a successful series of public consultation events.
RES - Bryn Llywelyn wind farm
3DW are proud to be selected by RES, to produce an interactive 3D model of their proposed Bryn Llywelyn wind farm site, representing a total of 400 sq.km.
The objective was to create a visual tool which would effectively engage and inform local residents. After the tool was used at a series of public consultations, RES commented:
"The 3D model went down very well with the public and I think it left them with a more favourable view of RES than they had before. It was definitely the focal point of the exhibitions."
EDF Energy Renewables - Beck Burn Wind Farm Consultation
3DW have produced an interactive 3D visualization to support EDF ENERGY Renewables' wind farm development of the Beck Burn site, in the rugged countryside near Gretna in the Scottish borders.
The model was used extensively in public meetings to help people to properly understand the true extent of any visual impact associated with the proposed turbines.
Interactive Sales Tool
Our ST John's Place (Liverpool City council) project is now completed. The model has been successfully used in the onsite sales office where sales staff can freely explore the site according to residents/potential buyers' interests.
3DW also delivered 1000 interactive DVDs to assist sales staff working on the new prestigious Liverpool Housing Development. The DVD takes viewers on a virtual tour of the local area highlighting different development phases, new development site, local amenities (schools, Doctor Surgeries etc.) and other points of interest to potential buyers.
Residents Consultation Aid
3DW were commissioned by Blackburn with Darwen Council to create a 3D model.
With years of expertise in producing high quality visualisation and communication tools, the team of 3DW designers set about producing a 3D real-time model which shows the existing area and how the proposed planned developments will look.
